Connected
Acrylic and alcohol ink
This art is made by controlling my breathing while blowing ink on paper. The creative process alleviates many of my Parkinson’s symptoms. The blown ink forms branches that are similar in topology to the roots and branches of trees and to the branching seen in nerve cells. Everything is connected. This painting was inspired by the drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Born in 1852 in Spain, he is considered by some to be the first neuroscientist. He studied neurons and their connections and made beautiful illustrations of what he saw through the microscope.
