Christina: Artist’s Statement

The people in the piece are all the family and friends that I have lost to addiction.  Purple is my sister’s color, and I lost her. The coffee stains represent drinking coffee with my dad at AA meetings when I was younger. I also lost him to addiction. In active addiction, there was chaos; the chaos slowly went away as I got into recovery.  The stairs are from a poem I wrote in high school: as I climbed, it got harder and harder but also lighter and more beautiful as I reached the top.
