When it comes to navigating the difficult waters of chronic illness, painting is my haven of escape, purpose and joy. I have been battling chronic Lyme disease for four years, where the majority of my energy and brainpower is spent simply navigating the basic tasks of life. Isolation and mental fatigue are huge factors and it can be a daunting task to stay positive and hopeful. For me, painting has not only become a prime way for me to stay sane and cope with the difficult and often depressing realities of chronic illness, but also to redeem the time through creating something beautiful. Painting has changed the game for me and art has become one of my favorite modes of self-expression and healing.
